Where is Spotlight in iOS 7?

Finding Spotlight in iOS 7 can be a challenge if you’ve recently upgraded from iOS 6. This useful little feature, that allows you to quickly search for anything on your iPhone directly from the home screen, is still just a swipe (in a different direction) away! In iOS 7 to find Spotlight, all you need to do is a quick swipe down from any home screen.  Previously, in iOS 6, swiping left would lead you to Spotlight.

Ta-da! Spotlight in iOS 7!

*Important: If you swipe down from the very top of the screen you’ll open the notification center, not Spotlight. You’ll need to swipe down from a little below the top.

iOS 7 Control Center – What is it and how do I access it?

The iOS 7 Control Center is a handy new feature that allows you to have easy, one-stop access to some of the most-used and helpful functions such as Wi-fi, Do not Disturb mode, the Camera, Volume Control, as well as Media Controls among others. Once you know it exists and how to find it, we guarantee it will make your iPhone experience that much smoother!

The nice thing about the Control Center is that you can access it from any screen, including your lock screen. To do so, you just swipe up from the bottom. To get out of it, you just swipe right back down.

Search a Webpage in Safari on iOS 7

This is a helpful tool for those times when you need to find a specific word on a webpage or within an article, and don’t want to go through the odious task of scrolling or reading through the entire thing.

While this feature has changed in iOS7 and may throw you off a bit at first, it is actually more convenient. You now may search for any word within the webpage by just entering it into the search bar above.  You will then be given the option to search “on this page” or to begin a new web search entirely. For example…

Your webpage

Your search (in this case, the word “case”)

Scroll to the bottom and select the “On This Page” option

When you’re done searching you just tap “done” in the bottom right hand corner!

Control Media from the Lock Screen

This is a really simple tip but I still find people that don’t know about it.

In the lock screen, double tap the Home button to bring up media controls

Now you can skip, pause/play, adjust the volume and toggle AirPlay without having to go into your iPhone.

This works for any audio your playing: Music, Songza, Spotify, Pandora, Podcasts, etc.

Change a song from any application

I hate when you’re in the middle of something on your iPhone, listening to music, and that terribly annoying Justin Bieber song comes on.

But it’s really easy to switch songs with a couple taps and swipes.

1. Double tap the home button

This will bring up the application drawer which shows any apps running on the phone in order by most recently opened.

2. Swipe left to access Music

Swiping left will give you access to the basic music controls.

iTunes access from App Drawer

Now you can open iTunes, pause your music or skip forward or backwards.

This works for any music app: iTunes, Songza, Podcasts, Pandora, Spotify, etc.
